open it the first time
Open Chrome Profile Switcher from Applications. Because the beta is not notarized by Apple yet, macOS stops it the first time:
- Click Done on the message.
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down and click Open Anyway next to Chrome Profile Switcher.
- Confirm with Touch ID or your password, then click Open Anyway.
Only once. On macOS 14 Sonoma you can instead Control-click the app and choose Open.

The app asks for one permission, Accessibility. Click Open Settings and turn on the switch next to Chrome Profile Switcher. The app notices by itself and shows a short tour.
It is used only to tell profiles apart and bring the right window forward. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Open Settings

That is it. Open windows in your browser profiles as usual: each open profile gets its own icon in the Dock, with its picture and a small badge of its browser. Close a profile’s last window and its icon goes away.
Works with Chrome, Safari, Brave, Edge, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi, Firefox, Zen and more.
everything it does, in four moves
Everything else lives behind the menu bar icon: your open profiles, Settings and the Quick Guide.
it updates itself
Every few hours the app checks for a new version. It downloads it in the background, installs it at a quiet moment (when you have not typed or clicked for a couple of minutes) and restarts in a second. Then it shows what is new, with an optional tour you can skip.
- Check now: Settings, General, Check Now.
- Prefer to choose? Turn off automatic installs in the same place.
- By hand: download the latest version from this page and drag it to Applications again, choosing Replace.
On version 1.5.6 or older, an update installs the next time the app quits or your Mac restarts.
if something is not right
macOS says the app “Not Opened” or “Apple could not verify” it
That is expected during the beta: the app is not notarized by Apple yet. Click Done, open System Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to Chrome Profile Switcher, confirm with your password or Touch ID, then click Open Anyway once more. On macOS 14 Sonoma you can also Control-click the app in Applications and choose Open. You only do this once.
No profile icons appear in the Dock
Open a window in a browser profile first: an icon appears for each profile that has a window open. Then check that Accessibility is on for Chrome Profile Switcher (System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility). If the switch is on but nothing happens, open Settings in the app and click “Already on? Reset & Grant Again”.
The hover previews show no pictures
Live pictures need Screen Recording. Hover a profile icon and click “Show live previews”, allow Chrome Profile Switcher in System Settings, then restart the app when it asks. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
Option-Tab or my profile shortcut does nothing
macOS turns off every app’s keyboard shortcuts while a password or card field has focus (“secure input”). Click somewhere else and try again. You can change the shortcut, or turn it off, in Settings, General.
How do I update?
You do not have to: the app checks for updates every few hours, installs them at a quiet moment and shows what is new. To check right away, open Settings, General and click Check Now. You can also download the latest DMG from this page and drag the app to Applications again, choosing Replace.
How do I uninstall it?
Click the menu bar icon and choose Quit, then drag Chrome Profile Switcher from Applications to the Trash. The profile icons live in your home folder under Applications, Chrome Profiles: delete that folder too. Your browsers and profiles are never touched.
